Junior Swim Instructor, Tuesdays @ 9am-12pm

Junior Swim Instructor is one offering from the leadership pathway that students can pursue. The program encourages leadership development in the area of aquatic instruction with the goal to prepare and motivate participants to become swim instructors through a separate certification course. As you work with students in this program, focus on enhancing skills needed in aquatic leadership, such as the following:

• Understanding youth development and the YMCA Swim Lessons program
• Developing knowledge in various aquatic safety topics
• Increasing endurance to meet the prerequisite physical competency requirements of the YMCA Swim Instructor Certification course

Junior Lifeguard, Thursdays @ 9am-12pm

The Junior Lifeguard Program is designed for individuals to explore their interests and goals in lifeguarding. Participants must have proficient swimming skills and the desire to learn proper water safety in a fun environment! The program uses both the classroom and the aquatic atmosphere to teach the importance of safety while around any body of water.

Junior Lifeguards are educated on how to prevent injury, how to respond safely to an emergency; CPR, First Aid and basic lifeguard rescue skills, as well as have the opportunity to gain practical experience while being mentored by YMCA aquatic department leaders.

Counselor in Training (CIT) is a summer leadership program designed for teens ages 12-15 who are interested in being a future camp counselor or working with children in many other settings.

CIT will shadow counselors of younger campers and assist staff in camp activities as well as participate in leadership workshops and training experiences throughout the session.

CITs may sign up for multiple week sessions throughout the summer at either our onsite or offsite summer day camp locations.

Cost: $35 Registration

$135 per week for members, $195 for non-members

Scheduling is flexible and will be determined based on individual needs and CIT training opportunities and activities.

Want to do specialty camps but still need all day care? We will transport kids from the YMCA after specialty camps to First Baptist Church, where they will be integrated into Day Camp for the remainder of the day.

Leadership camp is an intensive summer long training program for ages 13-15, for students who wish to grow in their leadership skills and push themselves past their limits.

Campers in this program will participate in weekly leadership classes, service projects, team building, lessons with community leaders, and so much more.

This program is more than just camp, all participants will be expected to adhere to a higher standard and complete all classwork and lessons throughout each week. Along the way, students will have the opportunity to build relationships, develop strong leadership skills, lifestyle skills, and communication skills while they have fun experiencing new things!

Preschool Camp provides campers an opportunity to enjoy all the exciting experiences and opportunities that summer has to offer.

Children explore and grow best through planned, age-appropriate activities.

Specialty camps will be held onsite at the Pawleys Y.

Fit for Kids camp is held Mon-Fri from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Campers will remain onsite and not travel on buses for field trips. They will have special theme activity days, go on walking trips and have special guests. We do follow the same themes as our off site day camp.

SPECIALTY CAMP WEEKS:

WEEK 1: June 5-9 Mad Scientist

During this action-packed camp, kids safely explore chemistry. With spectacular hands-on activities and amazing demonstrations, kids will both learn and apply the concepts, tools, and techniques of real chemists. Campers will start by learning lab techniques and safety procedures, and then use these to mix crazy concoctions and chemical combos. Kids even get fun lab gear to take home!

WEEK 2: June 12-16 Happy Accidents Art Week:

Art maniacs unite! This program is designed for campers who just can’t get enough of the arts and crafts room. Spend some time designing your own creations, learning about different artists and using color, value, shape, form, line, texture, and space to create perfect pieces of art. Campers will do sculpting, create jewelry, paint, sketch, nature art and so much more.

WEEK 3: June 19-23 Invention Convention

Explore your architectural and engineering potential along with your creativity through a variety of introductory STEAM based challenges. We have the blueprint for summer camp success! You’ll enjoy activities such as paper airplane construction, bridge building, structure design, LEGO building, and much more!

WEEK 4: June 26-30 Down to Earth

Discover all the different ways to go green and make better choices for our environment. Campers will create art out of recycled materials and make recycled paper. Using recycled soda bottles, campers will create terrariums. Do you have a lot of old run-down crayons? Bring them in! We will turn them into new crayons.

WEEK 5: July 3-7 Tropical Paradise

What better way to spend your week at camp than with a cool island vibe? We will be introducing campers to summer fun and games with our Aloha themed week From Limbo contests, tiki tosses, and beach ball volleyball join us while we bring the beach to the Y.

WEEK 8: July 24 – 28  Marine Biology 

Explore the many wonders of the marine world surrounding up! Campers are immersed in marine ecology, oceanography, and conservation of the natural world. Campers will get to dissect a cool creature, explore the sea underworld, and visit Ripley’s Aquarium.

WEEK 9: July 31-Aug 4 Under Construction

You’ll spend the week building, creating, and inventing! It’s gizmos and gadgets galore as you build with wood, Legos, toothpicks, blocks, cards, and even food! You’ll work with local contractors, designers, and architects to learn all about the building process. Come build with us!

WEEK 10: August 7-11 Grossology-Let’s Get Messy

Slimy, snotty, sneezy, and smelly… Grossology is the scientific study of all that’s NOT allowed at the dinner table. Join us for an insanely hilarious journey down some of nature’s most interesting & disgusting paths! This week is guaranteed to make you say “ewwwwwwww”!

WEEK 11: August 14-18 Forts, Fire, and Finding Your Way

Campers will venture deep into the woods where they will learn to survive and make a shelter. Along the way, they will learn about native plants, how to identify different types of trees, make lunch over a fire, establish a basic understanding of various knot tying skills, how to prepare wood, and safe building techniques. Campers will work together to create the ultimate fort!

Triathlon Camp – June 19-June 23

Triathlon events can be great for kids. With three fun sports (swimming, biking and running), this camp offer kids the chance to learn a variety of skills and and gear up for a trial triathlon at the end of the week. Our training program introduces kids to the competition, developing techniques in each discipline. *Prerequisite skills require that the child be able to swim 25yd. without assistance and have basic bike skills (with or without training wheels).

Aquapalooza, Pt. 1 – July 17-July 21

Aquapalooza, Pt. 1 is THE place to be for all things water-related this summer!  Campers will be spending the week beating the heat with super soakers, water balloons, slip and slides, games and relays, and so much more, along with a beach field trip.  Don’t miss out on this wild and wacky water week – it’s gonna make a splash.

Aquapalooza, Pt. 2 – July 31-August 4

And if you just can’t get enough… Aquapalooza Pt. 2 is here to keep you cool by the pool while you try to make summer last even just a little bit longer. All the same wild fun of Aquapalooza, Pt. 1, but with an extra splash of energy as we wrap up Summer 2023.

Swim Team Camp July 24^th-28^th

Join the fun! The Y will be hosting a week long swim team camp for kids age 5 through 14 where participants can sharpen their swimming skills in an uplifting, and positive environment. Swimmers will work on developing and refining all four competitive strokes. Throughout the week swimmers will participate in arts and crafts, team sports and attend a field trip! To participate swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards backstroke. Swimmers will need to bring 2 bathing suits, 2 towels, a change of clothes, a plain white shirt for tie dye, a swim cap, goggles and a healthy lunch. Advanced Swim Team Camp July 10^th-14^th 

This is designed for swimmers in the category 4, category 5 group and by invitation. This advanced swim team camp will consist of two daily practices, dry land, and information on nutrition for swimmers. Training will focus on conditioning and analyzing all four competitive strokes. Throughout the week there will be turn, breakout and racing workshops. The goal is for swimmers to gain self-confidence in their swimming, improve their stroke technique, create new friendships and have fun! To participate swimmers MUST be in the category 4 and category 5 group. If you are not a YMCA swim team participant evaluation must be completed or a coach’s recommendation must be provided before registration. Swimmers will need to bring 2 bathing suits, 2 towels, a change of clothes, a swim cap, goggles, sneakers and a healthy lunch.
