July’s Christian Principle: Peace
by Jordan Gandy, our Association Chaplain & Director of Spiritual Development
Have you ever thought about what could help you get through your life with a little more peace in it? Very recently I read countless articles concerning the word of the month here at the Y – PEACE. From, “Twelve Steps to More Inner Peace,” to “Ten Practical Ways to Build Peace in Your Life,” to “The Key to Piece,” all of these, among other articles, provide so many options and ideas for one to find peace in his/her life.
As we go through the month of July, I would like you to consider reshaping the question. Consider the question, “Have I ever thought about WHO can help me get through life with a little more peace?” The Christian faith teaches that Jesus Christ can bring peace. It teaches that He is the source of peace. In John 14:27, the Gospel writer records Jesus saying, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Simply put, Jesus is suggesting to his disciples, and I implore you to consider these same words today, that trials and tribulations will come in this life, but one should not allow fear and anxiety to dominate his heart.
